SERBIAN RAILWAYS have refurbished a number of class 812 railcars. They have literally received new life. The following things were done:
- New fuel economic engines which can reach higher speed.
- Airconditioning system
- Automatic doors
- PA and displays
- New livery.
This is a picture of "new" 812 railcars:
They operate on following lines:
Novi Sad - Zrenjanin
Pancevo - Zrenjanin
Nis - Kosanicka Raca
Serbian Railways announced further refurbishments to come. This is a very good example how traffic on branch lines can be sustained. It is also example that not all old things are for rubbish.
Not all news are good regarding shinobus. Since last update class 812 stoped operating on some lines due to rationalisation of regional and branch lines. Following lines lost passenger traffic:
Zrenjanin - Vrsac (Serbia and Montenegro)
Vrsac - Bela Crkva (Serbia and Montenegro)
Sid - Bijeljina (Serbia and Montenegro/Republic of Srpska)
Ruma - Zvornik Grad - still operates from Ruma to Loznica using diesel locos. (Serbia and Montenegro/Republic of Srpska).
In Croatia shinobuses have been withrdawn from service on all lines following introduction of second hand Sweedish rail cars.
One blues band in Vojvodina, northern province of Serbia and Montenegro was named Sinobus Blues Band. As class 812 or sinobus is widely used in Vojvodina it is part of many lives and served as inspiration for name of the band. Their first album is called "Sometimes we run through fields and sometimes we stand in stations". THEY EVEN GOT ONE THEIR WEBSITE!
